Burned Onion

In all the places in a school, the canteen must be the safest part. But there seem to be a little problem regarding the cleanliness of the canteen in Palo National High School. I personally experienced an insect lurking that I have bought.

The insect found in the spaghetti but not burned

On November 15, 2024, I bought a spaghetti and as I was so eager to eat it, I noticed a pepper-like object and as I inspected it more, I realized that it was the eyes of a burned mantis-like insect. As Zusie Morga, one of the few people that saw me pull out the insect, expressed her reaction to the unusual event by saying “I was surprised” since it was “weird” and it made her “not want to buy spaghetti anymore.”

This school year, a student named Haricaya,

not his real name, have bought a juice with an ant lying on the side of the cup, also Haricaya once bought a fried chicken in the canteen but as he took a bite, he realized that it was “uncooked,” do you ever wonder why these incidents happens? Also this year, a student named Sophia Seble have found a green mold-like portion of the donut she bought. Last year, while Seble was enjoying her buko juice, she discovered a plastic present in her juice. When you buy from the school canteen do you ever think that what you bought is fresh and not just leftovers from yesterday, or even yesyesterday.

Going back to the spaghetti, I returned the spaghetti and showed them the insects and as they look at it closer with a fork, it ‘fell’ and they denied that is was an insect even though they were witnesses and they said it was just a “burned onion” when it clearly has a hairy hand structure, also if it was just really a “burned onion” why did they gave me a new one?

To solve this problem, others might say that the school should do a regular food inspection, but I say they do a surprised food inspection to guarantee that what their selling is really safe since they can just make everything clean on the day of the food inspection while they won’t know when they’ll be inspected if the school inspects unexpectedly. But would you still risk your life just to eat your ‘tasty’ food?
